MA Thesis and MA Project Deadlines

Submission deadlines for MA thesis and MA projects will adhere to the deadlines given by the School of Graduate Studies (SGS) Graduate Calendar. While the exact deadline depends on the calendar year, in general thesis submission for the Fall convocation is mid-August with a final successful defense and deposit to SGS by mid-September; for Spring convocation these deadlines are mid-March and mid-April. MA research projects will be submitted to the department, while MA theses are submitted to SGS.

Upon submission of the final completed thesis or project, a defense will be scheduled within a period of no fewer than two, and no more than four weeks from the submission of the final completed thesis or project. For times other than the above deadlines, MA thesis and project defenses will also be scheduled upon submission of final completed theses/projects within a period of no fewer than two, and no more than four weeks from the submission date of the thesis or project. The parties concerned may agree on a postponement but the supervisor will make the final decision regarding if there is any deviation of date from the above policy.

Students are required to discuss prospective dates for the submission and the defense of their MA thesis or project with all members of their supervisory committee well in advance of any deadlines. Given that defenses frequently occur in the summertime, it is important that everyone is given as much time as possible to schedule a defense, and that all parties are kept up to date on a regular basis regarding the student’s progress toward completion of the MA thesis or project.
